M3-2013春: ポヤッチオ 『プチリズム六』 feat. SHAKING PINK, とろ美 +more

Master Katahotori's world famous プチリズム series keeps on giving, with the release of a sixth volume this April 29th 2013. Introducing 『プチリズム六』 and its 10 wonderful imouto-style original songs!

  1. うきうき☆ワンダーランド
    Vocal: SHAKING PINK Lyrics/Composition: 狐夢想

  2. 女子力☆乙女の超能力
    Vocal: とろ美 Lyrics/Composition: かたほとり

  3. 恋するげつようび
Vocal: ココ Lyrics: 木片 Composition: y0c1e

  4. ダメ!ダメ!
    Vocal: ゆきまめ&なゆ Lyrics/Composition: かたほとり

  5. 我が身思春期なり!
Vocal: 内緒妹 Lyrics: 後方一気 Composition: 乙P

  6. お気の毒ですがすべて仕様です。
    Vocal: ひななた Lyrics/Composition: オワタP

Composition: nana(sevencolors)

  9. Power of Love
    Vocal: kana Lyrics/Composition: muhmue

  10. そうだね、うん。
Vocal: 桃箱 Lyrics: kani Composition: U-ji aka 霊長類P

As expected, we have been gifted with yet another star-studded lineup, with a couple of surprises as well! Most striking is Queen とろ美 lending her beautiful voice to 「女子力☆乙女の超能力」 which seems to tie-in with the cover art and also got its own PV! It's not entirely surprising to see her collaborate with other doujin circles, as we've seen her on IOSYS and おでんぱ☆スタジオ albums just recently. But it's still pretty damn big news and this is certainly a milestone for かたほとり as a composer! Also (as previously announced on 電波の世界) we are getting a new SHAKING PINK song as well as fantastic individual performances from ななひら, 桃箱 and ココ! This is a good time to plug friendly mossya's "Shei-pi mini mix" from earlier this year.

内緒妹 returns for the second time in a row, don't forget her previous song 「ぎみぎみ☆もあもあ」 was one of our 2012 "honourable mentions". We also have a very special bratty duet in ゆきまめ&なゆ, two of my absolute personal favourites! ひななた takes on a sultry voice over an appropriately perky track from vocaloid superstar オワタP. めらみぽっぷ is also back after sitting out volume 5, sounding as lively as ever thanks to an upbeat composition from nana(sevencolors). This leaves us with pretty little thing kana teaming up with muhmue, whom you might remember from a recent ちぃむdmp☆ composition on their 4th album.

Well this is another no-brainer must-buy album... you know what to do! Gotta get 'em all!

M3-2012秋 part 2: Zero-Shaft, なゆ, 33.turbo, 藤原鞠菜 +more!

The M3-2012秋 doujincore group import is over, but that doesn't mean we can't report on newly-announced albums! Many of these should be available on online stores in the near future.

First, let's take a look at an exciting new series from Zero-Shaft! "Princess Vocal Collection" sounds like a follow-up to THEiDOLST@GE, which hasn't seen releases since last year's 「My Voice」. Sure enough, it features recurring vocalists, but this time the delivery is slightly different. Instead of a stand-alone album featuring many singers, Zero-Shaft is giving everyone their own single! Pretty cool and not too hard on the wallet at 500円 each. Vol. 1, 2 and 3 feature 天城あくる, ゆきまめ and なゆ respectively, great way to launch the series! Ideally these would be compiled on one disc in the future, until then we'll look forward to the next volumes! ななひら and 桃箱 please!

Speaking of Our Queen なゆ, make way for her grandiose debut album 「なゆきんぐだむ」! She rounded up a bunch of her friends on vocals (such as ななひら and 彩) and enlisted legendary composers (talking bout 吉田省吾, task, しの and Good Guy きくお!!!) to make sure her loyal subjects talk about this one for years to come. Almost every song is a collaboration of some kind, especially the last one which features all singers together! Although it prominently displays the spectacular jacket artwork, the website currently doesn't offer a crossfade. But you know what... I'm not exactly worried anyway! It's a なゆ album, I need this in my life!!!

Update 10/27/2012: Samples are up! Intense and high-quality music as expected!

The seventh (already?) 33.turbo mini-album is titled 「Dempa de Dance」 and it launched with a funny PV! This unit has been ramping up production values lately and as a result, this mini-album feels more focused. 500円 gets you 5 new songs and some seriously sweet artwork. Their website has samples for four of the five songs, so check them out!

Honestly, 藤原鞠菜 is pretty awesome and I feel bad for not mentioning her as often as I should have in the past. She started singing 10 years ago, but these days she's mostly known for her IOSYS collaborations, both on Touhou arranges and TV anime OP themes. Cool! She also did some voice work for... Microsoft, in an Internet Explorer 8 PV. Not cool.

Still, what's really relevant to this site's readers is her original albums with none other than TONAKAI sound works! Yes, 磯村カイ of Love Bullets fame. If you miss the GWAVE unit (they haven't released anything in two years) then you'll love Wisteria Magic. You're in for a treat because they've already released 「キミトマホウノヒビキ」, 「SUPER MARINA WORLD」, 「まりテツ!」 and soon *drumroll* 「SUPER MARINA WORLD2」! By the way, you can order all these albums off amazon.jp in case you miss them at M3.

Here's something new and somewhat mysterious! From circle "りょーかとゆかいな仲間たち" comes their (first?) album 「虹色スペクトル」. It's all very fuzzy, but from what I can gather we have 真泉涼夏 on vocals and this dude 虹関数 composed a few songs. Rainbows everywhere! Kenji (Sound;GEAR) also seems like a close collaborator. In any case, this sounds a bit rough around the edges (in a punk rock kind of way) but very exciting nonetheless! Fast songs, smooth songs, passionate vocals and lovely artwork. 300円 for 7 songs is completely outrageous, must GET!

Watch out, here comes しなもんしゅがー☆! I found out about this self-proclaimed denpa singer sometime ago (maybe even last year) but she didn't actually have any music at the time. Back in July 2012 she released her first single 「裏表シンデレラ」 along with samples on her myspace account. This is also rough around the edges, but honestly pretty damn good! These silly tracks kind of remind me of 33.turbo musically with a bit of とろ美's attitude for good measure. This girl seems like she'd drink anyone under the table, anytime. Wouldn't mind hearing more like this!

M3-2012秋: doubleeleven UpperCut, t+pazolite, プチリズム +more!

This Fall 2012 edition of Music + Media-Mix Market is a bit frustrating for international fans. Wish we could have written this article earlier, but quite a few of these albums were announced in the past two days. Once again, we will be adding Doujincore Import Info tables to each album, but take note that the deadline is October 23rd at 9PM PST! Don't dilly-dally, go denpa-crazy!

The essentials are covered below, but take note that many more offerings are still TBA, including 33.turbo, A.C.T, another Zero-Shaft single and possibly new material from とろ美, Holic Service and/or Birdtune. We'll keep our "denpa watchlist" updated, but feel free to look at similar lists from clixdex and もえぴー. Unfortunately doujincore limits orders to 6 items, so you'll have to choose carefully.

Updated 10/22: 24 hours to go! Not one, not two but THREE new Zero-Shaft singles have been announced. 33.turbo mini-album also has a name: 「Dempa de Dance」 and a price (500¥). A new なゆ solo something (single? mini-album? who cares!!! it's なゆ!!!) titled 「なゆきんぐだむ」 will launch for 500¥ at A-15ab.

Can we just call them veterans at this point? It's only been 2 and a half years since doubleeleven UpperCut released their debut album, but the sheer volume of new songs has been staggering to say the least! Sure, it's been one whole year since their third album "NUMBERS" came out, but that still feels like yesterday since it hasn't left my playlist since! Keep in mind that deUC has also been performing live quite a few times in 2012, so they've been keeping busy.

Somehow, the theme of 「FORCE -Do you like Upper Cut?? 4!!-」 turned out to be Star Wars (at least based on the cover). Actually, "FORCE" probably has to do with all song titles having so many exclamation marks!!!! At 2000円, pricing is a little more expensive than your average denpa CD, but give the crossfade MP3 a quick spin and you'll hear 10 quality songs that definitely belong in your collection. By the way, did you know that a couple of Softhouse-Seal games are being officially translated by MangaGamer? They just released Boob Wars on October 18th, so that's another way to support deUC on their quest for worldwide eroge OP domination!

Whether they're original or touhou arrange albums, you can count on t+pazolite releasing (great) new stuff each M3/Comiket. His latest effort is 「ULTRA CUTiE BREAKiN'!!!!」, a 10-track followup album to 2011's 「cutie breaks e.p.」 (right down to the artwork guy!). As expected of his recent albums, there's a bit of everything on here, from straight-up hardcore to borderline electropop and even a self-remix. Personally I'm glad he seems to have toned down the random rap inserts, but ARM's dubstep-heavy remix of "Sakuramichi Overdrive" might not be for everyone. Too bad there's only one new リズナ track! Still a must-buy.

We all knew this was coming, but somehow it still feels like a nice surprise! ポヤッチオ is back with the fifth installment of the プチリズム series. Most of the staff you know and love is back (ななひら, ゆきまめ twice!, kana, なゆ and more!) but Master かたほとり likes to keep things fresh with new composers and singers. The "imouto-style" is definitely alive and well!

In completely related news, make sure you also procure the latest ななひら mini-album. This time she teams up with her friend ひなうさ to deliver 5 beautiful hyperactive female pop songs on 「女の子あ・ら・もーど」. The opening track by ねぎとろ is particularly powerful, but all tracks deliver a certain dose of intensity. Take note that this is published by a new circle (40より7大きい!) so let's support them and hope for new albums! By the way you can also catch ななひら on しの's second single 「笑顔になる魔法」.

Odenpa's seventh single 「Lolly’sへようこそ!」 is a bit on the short side with just 2 new songs, but they strike again with yet another stellar guest appearance! 春河あかり performs on the first song and the indispensable でぱらじ episode; you may know her better as doubleeleven UpperCut's vocalist! Excellent choice and the crossfade can't come soon enough! The theme this time is an imaginary maid cafe named "Lolly's" which should make for some interesting lyrics as usual.

A new Zero-Shaft album is always reason to rejoice, but they also seem to have the only new ココ song of the event! That's a must-get reason right there, but otherwise, 「ぺろっ!」 is also full of quality material from vocalists such as 彩, りこ。, ののな, ななひら and がきコ. On the backend, a mix of easy-going and hard-hitting music from しの, nmk, むちゃ and former Holic Service/Birdtune collaborator 貿易風.

As soon as the M3-2012秋 list was published, I noticed this new circle "denpa*garden" but I couldn't find anymore info. The cat's now out of the bag, along with a debut CD! 「HEROINES」 is the first mini-album from denpa etude, with ほのか on vocals and ニゴロウ as main composer. The four tracks range from vigorous pop to lovely ballads, with a certain level of mind-control injected in each song. Lyrics are provided courtesy of ちな, らいね and 愛原圭織 (of ちぃむdmp☆ fame!) so quite the lineup indeed. Strong debut effort, looking forward to more!

Last but certainly not least, we have a new album from underground idol らめる! It just so happens that she was featured here just a month ago, so make sure you read up on her if you haven't already. 「どーぶつどーなつ」 has 7 new songs from composers such as CHEEBOW, Records Booster, y@yama and others. She told us it would be a "sweet" album with many denpa-oriented songs, but we didn't know the whole theme was going to be Animal Donuts! All those saccharine delicacies you see in the video actually come from a donut shop called Ikumimama out in Kawasaki. Tasty collaboration for a sweet album!

C82: beatlogic, SHAKING PINK, Zero-Shaft, とろ美 + more

This should be the last of our Comiket 82 preview posts, given that the event is just around the corner and that the Doujincore Group Import deadline is dangerously close. In true 電波の世界 fashion, we'll cram this entry with as much music as you can shake your paypal account at! Won't somebody think of the artists?

Let's start things off with a very special album. Beatlogic's 「eLekSoNicRusHeRRRRRR!!!」 was just announced a couple days ago, but it's already made a lasting impact on yours truly. I've played that crossfade a good dozen times and it's just as impressive each time! cello's debut album not only contains some fucked up electro-denpa, it tastefully crosses into hardcore punk rock on quite a few tunes. There has been some punk-ish denpa in the past, but nothing as intense as this. This dude's skills are truly outrageous! Not to mention the utterly sick cover, and a low price point of 500 yen.

As a reminder, you might also want to invest in his first published compilation album 『シュミックトリガ! -New wave of A-POP-』 which was released exactly one year ago. His one track there was a clear sign of things to come, but you'll also get to enjoy some bitching かめりあ and ぶっちぎりP tracks.

Is SHAKING PINK poised to become the next big thing in the world of virtual idol units? It's a little too early to say with just one single under their belt, but damn did ポヤッチオ assemble a dream team or what? We're talking ココ, ななひら and 桃箱 on vocals! Absolutely mind-boggling, but let's just hope they won't stop their sudden invasion at two songs. Well, they really only have one true original song, since the third track was already released by Master かたほとり in the past.

The second track comes from Child Prodigy かめりあ who delivers yet another stunning 萌え電波 concoction that is perfectly suited for SHAKING PINK. The first track is an intro, likely some amusing drama between the three splendid vocalists. At this point, all we can hope for is that this turns into more than just a one-off side-project, but until then we'll cheer on these ladies of denpa as they strive for the top!

Good old regular ZERO-SHAFT kinda remind me of おでんぱ☆スタジオ in a way... you can always count on them for something new! This time, they managed to announce their latest album before the event, which is always helpful when you're a import-dependant barbarian gaijin living 10,000 KMs away from Tokyo Big Sight. Mild sarcasm aside, their latest effort 「なつぴよ」 is as impressive as always, featuring an array of 20 vocalists and just as many staff members.

At first glance, these 13 songs might seem a little more mature, falling more in line with 「Zero-Shuffle」 than the previous "ちびロリっ!" albums. Rest assured, there's plenty of なゆ, ななひら, がきコ, ゆきまめ and りこ。 on these tracks! They're also backed by top-of-the-line composers such as task, 遥風啓司, しの and more. So what are you waiting for? Order this already, you know you want to!

Can we go three album previews in a row without mentioning how awesome ななひら is? Not today we can't! Fans of her vocaloid alter-ego will be delighted to hear about this new C82 mini-album 「ななみっくす!-nanamix-」 which features voices from both ななひら and 春歌ナナ!

All five of these brand new tracks were crafted by the following gentlemen: Master かたほとり, Child Prodigy かめりあ, Lord さつき が てんこもり, U-ske and 吉田省吾! The songs all sound energetic, but Satsuki's is particulary hard-hitting. What's more, track #3 「ロリングボール!」 has backup vocals from なゆ、桃箱 and りこ。 (be still my beating heart!) For more 春歌ナナ goodies, don't forget about 2011's 「なないずむ!」 which is still hot stuff.

Our Benevolent Queen とろ美 has deemed it fit to bestow us with another memorable album! If you feel like the above preview sounds familiar, that's because 「astromyu」 is entirely composed by おでんぱ☆スタジオ regulars ベイビー・レモネード (4 first tracks) and ひろて~! Remember that she recently provided guest vocals on one of their albums... don't know about you, but we're certainly loving this give-and-take attitude!

The five songs here are pretty straight-forward denpa, nothing pretentious or genre-bending. Just some good old とろ美 for what ails you. As usual, she provides her own cover art and this space odyssey themed jacket is certainly one for the ages. Until you can get your grubby hands on this album, download the crossfade MP3.

Last but certainly not least, akiba-pop giants MOSAIC.WAV will release their 8th single 「七三値≪ななみね≫ぱすかはダイスを振らない!」 on August 10th 2012, which is the first day of Comiket 82. Because this is a commercial release, we can't provide you with doujincore details. However, don't despair! The single has been made available for purchase via cdjapan which is as reliable as they come.

This new release marks the debut of character creation Nanamine Pasuka, who just won't roll the dice! As usual you can download short versions of all songs from the official Sham Studio website, including lyrics and various art samples. かやぴ's latest songs involve glitch, swing, honest-to-goodness chiptune and a return to space-pop. Yes, we keep saying this, but these are some of his best creations yet! Musically speaking, the guy has shown no signs of slowing down, still a genius, probably always will be one. Mi~ko is obviously getting more and more confortable as time goes by, unafraid to try new things but very much aware of her fanbase's needs. All signs point to another memorable MOSAIC.WAV single!

There are still many more albums worth your while (check out the denpa watchlist to your right), not to mention all the awesome J-Core (if you're into that) and various doujin games. What do you think, is this one of the best Comikets yet? What's on your list?

Twitter Cluster: Best of December 2011

Happy new year to all denpa fans and artists! December was packed with unbelievable albums and events. Not only did we have a great Comiket 81, but でんぱ組.inc delivered a splendid full-length album just before the year ended. Mandi and I will be working hard on our 2011 Denpa Sampler, which we hope you'll enjoy and post on many message boards to annoy/entice as many people as possible. Let's shoot for late February, which is usually when the fine Japanese folks pick their best songs of the previous year. Who knows, maybe we could run a poll next year as well, but that's a heck of a lot of songs to track. Until then, here's what we posted on our @denpanosekai twitter account during December 2011.

C81: ALBATROSICKS, ForestPireo, Zero-Shaft, InnocentKey +++

Don't be fooled by the low volume of C81 updates on 電波の世界, it's not about the lack of quality albums coming out, oh not at all. It's all about us being a bit busy and quite frankly, lazy! Still, here are a few must-get albums which are poised to be released during the eighty-first edition of the world's finest otaku event. As usual, some of these CDs can be ordered from stores like とらのあな for a slight premium... while quantities last!

Before we go on, here are the other albums we covered:

Just like this summer's Comiket, ARM contributed less to the mainline IOSYS album in order to focus on the latest ALBATROSICKS album! 『rebirth era』 is the eight album, but it only has three new songs out of six tracks. That's still a better tally than say, 『MERGE THE STRAWBERRY』 but just a heads up as the other three are remixes. At least it feels a bit more focused with upbeat melodies present on most tracks. It's good to hear some new miko songs, as she hasn't been all that active lately.

In a related note, RUSTY GEARS does have a C81 single 「平和バカ二代」 with three new tracks, so that's another way to get your miko fix.

All samples available on website

Forest Pireo may have started pumping out Touhou arrange albums two years after IOSYS did, but that won't stop them from catching up in terms of number of releases! Case in point, they have two new albums for Comiket 81. Although both are excellent, one of these two will be of greater interest to this readership. 『Girl's Festa! 01』 will be their 18th release and even though it's an all-original album, it's still very much in line with their previous efforts.

What's different is that it's packed with cute and powerful songs from well-known composers such as さつき が てんこもり, 未来派, かたほとり and our boy かめりあ. On the mic we have lovely ladies such as めらみぽっぷ, 桃箱, ななひら and kana. Highlights include 「ただいま参上! 電波シスター☆」 from y0c1e and みぃしゃ as well as the explosive cocktail 「ご先祖様は君を見守っている!」 from 未来派 with an explosive ななひら+kana duet! Frankly all songs stand out on this amazing compilation.

If you can't get enough of Touhou arranges, that's ForestPireo's bread & butter so don't worry. 『妹紅 ~mokou the best~』 is a bit more serious in tone (jacket art is a dead giveaway) but still has its share of silly tunes from さつき が てんこもり, y0c1e, ななひら, kana and others. It'd be awesome to see ForestPireo go for an all-denpa album, but until then they include a serviceable amount of them on each of their albums, so it's worth supporting them!

Zero-Shaft is quickly becoming a force to reckon with, releasing quality idol/moe/denpa albums one event after the other. Just a couple months ago, they released 『 まほロリっ!』 to great acclaim, but they're back with a cross album that includes element from their ロリっ! spinoff with their mainline THEiDOLST@GE series.

ZeroShuffle』 features 14 tracks performed by 19 singers and created by 12 composers! There's an equal mix idol/moe so it's like getting 2 albums for the price of 1. Whatta deal! Especially when you're talking vocalists such as ゆきまめ, ななひら, なゆ, 愛空アキハ and way, WAY more. Highly recommended.

All samples on website

Innocent Key is ココ's home circle so that's reason enough to include them on our bi-annual comiket preview. But more and more these days, they've focused on quality denpa songs over boring regular arranges. 『東方スクール』 was the turning point, and now we're getting a denpa hotpot to warm ourselves up for the coming winter.

東方闇鍋』 is chock-full of tasty ココ tracks, deliciously arranged by the likes of yohine and 溝口ゆうま. Other key collaborators include デッドボールP, D.watt, Nimo, めらみぽっぷ, 大瀬良あい and many more. This album is a lot darker than March's school rumble, but still knee-deep in twisted melodies and tongue-in-cheek writing. Highlights include 「Magical Shooting Star!」 and frankly, anything involving ココ's megami koe.

Here's something that'll blow your mind, yet it wasn't completely unexpected. ARM and BeatMario have collaborated in the past, but 『スペシャル俺たち!!!!』 is the apex of those partnerships. Manly, hot-blooded, intrepid... beefcake? (wtf thesaurus.com) All of these synonyms apply. There isn't much to say, we'll let the sampler do the talking. Out of the 10 tracks, 6 are tunes composed by ARM and the other 4 are drama, likely with BGM. This one seems like it could become 2011's best-kept secret!

Looks like おでんぱ☆スタジオ are in a guest vocalist mood! After inviting とろ美 to sing with them this summer, 井上みゆ was invited to participate on their sixth single 『ろりーたプラネット★ミ』. Who's it gonna be next time? This is another dream collaboration to be sure, but their other new song 「なめこのうた」 is nothing to scoff at! The odenpa girls are climbing up the ranks and getting noticed all over the world while composers ひろてー and BB.Lemonade are constantly invited by other circles. Looking forward to a third album in 2012!

Last but certainly not least is the new 天然ジェミニ album 『東方Little Bloom』! We've been fans since their first album, but one of their best moves was to sign up explosive arranger かめりあ for 3 tracks out of 8, including the fantastic PV seen below. He's really a good match for this unit, it's good to see him take on a bigger role. Otherwise, expect more of the same, which is exactly what we're looking for anyway. Some denpa, some high-tension pop, some rock, some eurobeat... actually that's kinda new!

C81: 『プチリズムふぉお///』 4D 萌え song album from ポヤッチオ

What's hotter than 2D love? 4D love of course, a scientific fact かたほとり and his chibi-loli-moe-loving friends quickly realized and acted upon. Or maybe their past three プチリズム albums did very well with fans of the genre and they just decided to go with a fourth volume. Just maybe. After all, the first album was also re-issued for M3-2011秋, which says a lot about the serie's rising popularity. In case you have no idea what the hype is all about, check out this crossfade video for 『プチリズムふぉお///』.

Track Title Vocals Composer

As you can tell from the tracklist, many recurring artists are back on board, which is excellent news for fans of the series. Something that did seem to have changed is the overall BPM. One could argue that the previous compilation was a bit more laid-back, focusing on the melodies and moe themes. The C81 album however kicks in really strong with a powerful track from good guy きくお, who better damn get back together with 白石なごむ for a 2012 album.

The second track follows the same rhythm but has an interesting backstory. Composer 狐夢想 originally came up with the song 「ナナプラス+」 in May 2011 as a 春歌ナナ (ななひら UTAU) niconico upload. Well, this time we'll be getting the real deal! How often does this happen? It's as if Fujita Saki started singing a bunch of Hatsune Miku songs.

You can sample the remaining tracks for yourself, but suffice to say we're in for a hell of a ride. As far as we're concerned, this is one of the highest quality moe lineups ever assembled. From top billing ココ, ななひら to our pet favourites なゆ and ゆきまめ, everyone's here! Make sure you let these boys & girls know how much you appreciate their lovely compositions and beautiful voices... BUY THIS ALBUM!

M3-2011秋: Zero-Shaft's 「My Voice」 and 「 まほロリっ!」

Just six months ago, hard-working douijn circle Zero-Shaft gave us two great albums in 「COVERST@GE」 and 「ちびロリっ!」. The former was a pretty cool anisong cover album, but the latter was a delightful collection of ロリ-style songs performed by some of our favourite singers out there (talking about ココ, ななひら, 桃箱 and more!) Better yet, both were listed at a ridiculously low 500¥. Well guess what, they're at it again!

That's right, Zero-Shaft are bringing two brand new full-length albums to M3-2011秋 and they're pricing them at 500¥ once again. First, let's take a look at 「My Voice」 which is the fourth entry in their THEiDOLST@GE series (the first one was downloadable). As the name implies, this is an idol-genre album with 9 original compositions that are usually a bit more "serious" in tone. However you still have extremely cute songs involving singers such as りこ。 and 愛原圭織. Most songs are individual efforts, but there is a pretty interesting quartet on track #8 「レンアイREVERSE」. The above PV gives a clear indication of just how exceptional this album should turn out to be.

While THEiDOLST@GE is clearly Zero-Shaft's flagship brand, their ロリっ! spin-off is clearly doing pretty well! The second installment is titled 「 まほロリっ!」 and is a 魔法少女-inspired album. Now here are some pretty mind-blowing facts about this album: a mere 500¥ will get you 14 tracks featuring 19 different vocalists! As if that wasn't unbelievable enough, we're talking about quality vocalists such as ななひら、なゆ、kana、ゆきまめ、ひななた、mega and many, MANY more! All of them got quality illustrations which range from lovely to kinky! This also includes SD characters from 大山チロル who also sings and regularly contributes artwork for ちぃむdmp☆ (what a talented lass). Let's not forget about the brave composers who wrote the songs, including しの、遥風 啓司、Yu and BBレモネード (from おでんぱ of course).

The bottom-line here is you're looking at 23 tracks for 1000¥ with 24 of the net's hottest singers, not to mention a great variety of earnest and downright silly music from up-and-coming composers. This thing's a no-brainer, get both! Those who buy the two albums at M3 will earn themselves unlimited praise from Zero-Shaft, as well as this cool reversible poster. Did we mention that 「 まほロリっ!」 ships in a white DVD case? WHITE! Sweet plastic ambrosia.

C80: Double your t+pazolite dose with C.H.S and ACT injections

For the past couple years, C.H.S (t+pazolite's circle) was pretty diligent in releasing new material at events like Comiket and even M3, so it wasn't a big surprise when 「Samplejunk」 was announced for  C80! In fact, we were kinda anticipating something new coming out, so here we are with the 10th official release in a long line of really cool and mostly fucked up albums.

As usual, this is a Touhou arrange album that doesn't really sound like one, unless you are a diehard fan of the original soundtrack and can pinpoint every little nuanced similitude. The rest of us will just blissfully listen to the album, especially due to quality vocal appearances from リズナ, ランコ (豚乙女) and Ayu/Coda (ACT) . At this point we're kinda hoping the next album will be a full-vocal follow-up to C78's brilliant 「Honey I Scream!」but in the meantime this'll do nicely!

And now for something which, in theory, would be a lot like t+pazolite's "regular" stuff but ended up sounding a bit differently. When we introduced ACT back in December 2010, it seemed obvious that his fans would automatically jump ship and follow him, Coda and Ayu on this new adventure. As good as their new album 「First Aid Navigation」 does sound, it's a lot softer and slower than we expected! Topazo's unique style is still heavily palpable, but this won't be for everyone...

The album features eight brand new tracks, including an intro and outro which the trio performs by itself. Then we have three tracks where patients come in with their problems, which in turn generates three "examination" collaboration tracks. At least, that's what the concept feels like. One of these patients is the lovely ゆきまめ, which is definitely an highlight of the album! Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how well this album resonates with the ACT fans. If you enjoyed brutalizing your ears with 「5分でわかるこれまでのACT」 then you might have to wait until their next offering to get your fix...

C80: Lolimoe all-stars assemble for 『プチリズムさん!』

Third time's a charm? WRONG. In this case, all of the プチリズム albums have been exceptional and circle ポヤッチオ (overlord かたほとり) is looking to keep the winning streak alive. We've reported on the fantastic second volume 『プチリズムCHU』 late last year, but unfortunately the first one saw a very limited release and can't be purchased anymore. But what's so hot about this compilation series? A quick look at the artists featured on the third volume 『プチリズムさん!』should answer that question right away!

Want MOAR do ya? Producer U-Ske himself uploaded a full version of his fantastic contribution 「あいろにーっ!」 which features 愛原圭織 on vocals. Shiny!

In related mind-blowing news, かたほとり announced that his circle will share the table 東Z-24ab with ちぃむdmp... who will be selling their new album! More details to come. Oh and ななひら will be there too, lovingly giving you CDs as you purchase them with a drooling face! Don't creep her out now!!!

例大祭8 roundup: Innocent Key, IOSYS, 天然ジェミニ, Siestail

We've done roundups for M3-2011春, M3-2010秋, M3-2010春 Comiket 79 and hell, even 東方紅楼夢6. But nothing on Reitaisai, the grande messe of Touhou? Originally, we were planning on helping you build your shopping list back in early March, but the event was postponed to May 8th 2011 because of y'all-know-what. Of course you could always visit doujinongaku for the complete list of participating circles, but we've hand-picked some of the best (denpa-related DUH) albums which are coming out this weekend.

Note that many of these may already be available in stores, but they still deserve coverage nonetheless!

Let's start this round-up with Innocent Key... how often does that happen? Well, this is actually the first time in four years that we're taking a good long look at an Innocent Key album! We did select a song from 2010's superb「ココボク」as a "top denpa song of the year 2010" but of course the main draw was ココ and her awesome voice. Still, thanks to that album and now 「東方スクール」 (a full-on denpa album), it's finally time to give Innocent Key credit where credit is due.

The titular track dictates the pace and tone, playful and cheery tunes abound! Only "transmigration" takes a more serious turn, but it still somehow fits in just well. ココ is featured on most songs of course but dare we say this is yohine's most focused album? 溝口ゆうま also did a fantastic job arranging timeless Touhou themes with flair and panache. Somehow Lord ARM makes a welcome guest composer appearance. It also helps that most of the male vocals are downright hilarious! While 「リリーの花粉最前線!」 may just be the strongest song on the album on all accounts, you just have to LOVE Innocent Key parodying ULTRA-PRISM with 「収穫イモ娘」... really clever cover which we're sure put a smile on aniki's stern face!

Can somebody please tell ForestPireo that 「Party Pochecan mean "boring party" in French? In certain parts of the world, at least. Regardless, this is not a boring party by any stretch of the imagination... especially when it has girls like ななひら, なゆ and ココ!!! This wild trio will light up any social gathering, but the other girls aren't exactly Debbie Downers either. Not to mention we have a couple of ikemen in さつき が てんこもり and Innocent Key's 溝口ゆうま. For once, we have a ForestPireo album that is mostly upbeat so... pretty awesome shindig after all!

Comiket 79 saw the release of the IOSYS mega-denpa-album "Touhou Unfufufu" which, among other highlights, had Queen とろ美 singing the opening track composed by Lord ARM. The dream duo is back for more, just as IOSYS have gone back to a more variety-oriented album format. Regardless, 「東方メレンゲ少女夜行」 is another worthy offering and still features tons of crazy denpa songs to sink your teeth in. Next to 「エンドレス・てゐマパーク」, miko's 「少女さとりのさとりったー」 is the album's other heavyweight. あゆ and her friends t+pazolite and Coda contributed a new ACT track which frankly is not as memorable as the material from their first single, but still highly entertaining. Speaking of ACT, they will release a full album at C80!

Lord ARM's remix album 「リ:キャンディッド! ARM東方リミックス」was the other big IOSYS release just a couple months ago. They've announced a few new ones since then, but this is still fresh hotness as far as we're concerned! This one remixes eight different songs from various IOSYS "eras", including some pretty old stuff. Any attempt to describe the album's genre is futile. After many coffee pots and a couple Red Bulls, Lord ARM let himself loose in his studio, kicked a bunch of computers+keyboards around and this is the result. It is not as "focused" as his own album 「ワァオ!ハイパー電波チャン -ARM商業作品集-」 in fact it's quite the opposite. "Fucked up" comes to mind but the real descriptor should be "incredible variety". This feels like a love letter to his fans so if you want to support Lord ARM, speak with your wallet.

monoROSETTA's 「GREATEST HITS(予定) Vol.1」 is one of the many albums that weren't available for the original Reitaisai 8, rather it was announced in mid-April 2011. Despite the "greatest hits", don't be fooled. It's more of a "retro" kind of joke (if that makes any sense), which honestly is in line with some of the music. These are all brand new songs, with only a few already published (?). Once again, there is a lot of variety at hand, from borderline disco (妖怪ディスコウサギのテーマ) to straight-up denpa (危ないカリスマ☆恋のスカーレット! and a couple others) and even some good-old fashioned Ramones-esque kind of anthemic punk.

This new unit consists of two DearStage girls on vocals (夢眠ねむ (also a DenpaGumi member) and レナ) as well as VOID and a couple other IOSYS dudes writing songs and lyrics. Yours truly was lucky enough to see these girls perform live at the MegaPeer event in early January 2011 and judging from the crowd reaction at such an embryonic stage of their career, they surely have a number of years ahead of them. But since all songs here are high quality arrangements of Touhou classics, the real test will come in the form of an original album.

Although 天然ジェミニ (tenjemini) consists of 愛原千尋 and 愛原佑季 at its "core", they change their voices so much and bring in so many guest vocalists that it can be kind of hard to tell them apart from other similar units. But when one of these vocalists is ゆきまめ... it's time to party! Along with yet another guest (愛空アキハ) she sings the first song 「可愛いなんて言わせない!」which does a great job of setting up the new album 「東方マジカル☆コミカル」. We love Yukimame and hope she appears on more circles, but she needs her own album like Nanahira!

Compared to the former album 「東方女乱演舞」which had a couple of snoozer tracks, this new effort is overall quite pleasing to the ear. The two tracks from KANZAKI (yes, one of the TAMUSIC dudes) are extremely well-crafted but the real standout here is Loser Kashiwagi's delightful 「にとりときゅうりと謎の技術!」 which almost sounds like it was composed with real Genesis/MegaDrive hardware. It's good to see/hear one of denpa's OGs still kicking it old-school!

Rounding out today's roundup is Siestail with「ザ・ベストちぇん」their second Best Of album in two years; the first being 2010's 「ザ・ベストてゐ」. Now you might be thinking "two best-ofs in two years? that's fucking nuts!"... well, you're right. The thing is, Siestail's circle-master Spelunker is not human; it is a Touhou Arrange Machine From Hell (TAMFH). But at least, it has the decency of selecting fantastic vocalists for its admittedly uniques remixes. We're talking リズナ, 小宮真央, ココ, ℃iel, haru*nya, papico and a bevy of other awesome girls with awesome voices. Oh, you haven't heard of papico? We secretly posted her picture in a previous post, so there's a late Easter Egg Hunt for you.

No but really, Spelunker is doing its fans a major service by doing these compilation albums on a yearly basis. You see, between the original release of 「ザ・ベストちぇん」 (early March) and today, SEVENTEEN new songs were published on four different singles which we won't discuss today, despite being packed to brim with the great singers listed above. There's always next year... until then, do give this double-CD a chance. Surely one of the 32 tracks will do it for you, and as good as she sounds with t+pazolite, it's good to hear Miss リズナ under a different producer once in a while!

東方紅楼夢6 round-up: new 天然ジェミニ and IOSYS albums

Today (October 11 2010) is 体育の日 (Health and Sports Day), a national holiday in Japan. But diehard Touhou fans won't let a little forced exercise get in the way of their quest to acquire more items for their never-ending collection. For its sixth edition, the Osaka Touhou Festival 東方紅楼夢 is hosting hundreds of doujin artists, many of which will be launching their latest work for the occasion.

Of particular interest to 電波~萌え fans, the recent duo (trio now?) 天然ジェミニ will be releasing their second album 「東方女乱演舞」! If you are not familiar with 愛原佑季 and 愛原千尋 (and big-sister あんな?), please read this previous article. It almost looks as though this is a direct sequel to their C77 album 「東方香辛甘味」, right down to the composers: さつきがてんこもり, 未来派 and 24 bit lolitas all make greatly appreciated returns. Some of the texts were written by master lyricist ユウノウミ, with whom the duo collaborated on multiple occasions in the past. You can check out the demo MP3, but no PV so far.

To be perfectly honest, we haven't really covered IOSYS albums in the past because it feels like they can't bring themselves to focus on quality over quantity. They have great songs, but they're diamonds covered with so much sand. With all due respect to the composers involved, it seems that the chances of one of their albums being memorable is directly proportional to the ratio of songs that feature ARM/void in some capacity. Hate to pick favourite sons, but it is what it is (and feel free to disagree).

That said, while this album features at least five ARM-related tracks out of 12 (medley included), the previews for 「東方浮思戯革命」 seem to indicate that this is a well-balanced album. But just as interesting is the inclusion of three tracks from uno... a.k.a RoughSketch. The young Hokkaido-based DJ has collaborated with IOSYS in the past, notably writing lyrics for "Border of Extacy". But with these three new arranges and a whole remix album in 「東方IO-BEST BEATS」, you might as well think he's a full-time member.

The new album does include a couple of denpa songs, as well as splendid vocal talents from MIKO, the monotone girls and... ゆっくり (The Best Vocaloid Ever). Actually it's just some Windows App called SofTalk, but it sure suits the take'r easy attitude. All this to say that track #9 「 信仰を 集めて生やし うしろあし」 probably takes the cake in terms of wackiest song of the album, and niconico bullet-hell commenters seem to agree.

Like IOSYS, Forest Pireo could use a little more focus when it comes to putting together compilations. Their latest album 「Memory Melodies」 has a couple of fantastic moe~denpa tunes that are unfortunately drowned out by the other tracks. Three of the ten songs feature ななひら and/or kana on vocals, which also means spirited and energetic music to back them up. Unfortunately the rest of the album sounds glum and dreary, which works against the small dose of energy mustered up on tracks 5, 6, 7. Still, for the ななひら completist in all of us, this one can't be skipped!

And now for some bite-sized news regarding today's event:

C.H.S 「蟲と東方と純血(ストロベリー)ジャム」

t+pazolite is back for more madness! Well, it's not like he ever stopped. This funky trip down strawberry lane redefines T.U.I (Touhou Under Influence). I gotta say though, his "Shitty Night" song is totally fucking gross.

ゆきまめ + more 「Digitalic -L+R- Party "Preview ver."」
ゆきまめ is a favourite here at 電波の世界, but it's an absolute shame that she hasn't had her own album yet. Hopefully she'll take a cue from her friend ななひら and this summer's splendid 「ゴキゲン77゚↑」, but until then we'll gladly accept whichever small-time compilation on which she chooses to grace her presence.

k6project 「Thank you "Lotus land"」
Last but certainly not least, we have the mammoth "Thank you Lotus land" compilation from k6project, which packs 46 tunes, 21 manga and 265 illustrations onto a DVD. While you can't sample any of this beast online (it's only 100円 but good luck getting a copy), what's interesting to know is that one of our dear readers, namely cYsmix from Norway, is making his international debut on this compilation. While he is mostly known for his Touhou remixes on Youtube, the guy is also a bit of a denpa fan. To wit, this splendid 狂乱家族日記 ED remix with a hardcore spin.

C78: Sweet*apple なゆ falls on two new albums

なないろぷりずむ 「東方始音曲」
Nayu, nao, ayu, gumi, koko, mi~ko, miko. So many good denpa singers with such short names, but we love them all the same. But nayu's a new one, unless you've been following her niconico cover songs channel ever since she started it in July 2009. Exactly one year later, she is not only singing her first two original songs, but she is also launching her own circle Nanairo Prism, on which she is releasing her first mini-album 「東方始音曲」.

She is bringing a few friends along for the ride. Even though this is her first effort, she managed to round up some considerable guests. We're talking ゆきまめ and ななひら on goddamn vocals, not to mention the "old-timer" 紫月菜乃 for some mature back-ups. The four arrangers are also worth mentioning: the illustrious 未来派 (WTF is up with his website these days??), Rolling Contact aka 天音 (usually known for his hardcore touhou covers), ForestPireo's own ごろう and ぴーえー from Rough Time (one of Satsuki's friends). Put together, this cast makes  「東方始音曲」 yet another must-own C78 item. Here's the PV to 「Swinging Night Fantasy」 as well as the crossfade sampler.

Rhyth 「東方レボリューションZ」
She also has a song on the new Rhyth CD entitled Touhou Revolution Z, which is their second Touhou vocal album as the name implies. Rhyth have an interesting website, looking like it was plucked straight out of the late nineties, scrolling hit counter and all. They also get nerd points for their P.S.G./PicoPico fetish and extremely cute album covers (except the atrocious first one). As luck would have it, なゆ gets to sing 「こい☆よみ」; the only "electropop" track of the album... which may or may not be the only good song depending on your point of view. Still, this is extremely good exposure for the budding new denpa starlet and we certainly wish her a long and prosperous career!
